Healthy Food For Healthy Kids
Hopscotch makes frequent deliveries of healthy food throughout the week to local schools in the Portland area. The food is directed towards low income, “at risk” kids. Most of the food is packaged items or fresh fruit which can be transported in a backpack. It’s easy, accessible and the kid’s like it. Often personal hygiene products are delivered to the same kids.
Several local companies have stepped up, providing “Gift In Kind” donations. These include Dave’s Killer Bread, KIND, Inc., Betty Lou’s, Stanislaus Food Products, Schmidt Deodorant, Otto’s Sausage Kitchen, Period.org, Medical Teams International and International Aid. All donated items are delivered quickly and efficiently.
The following schools in the Portland area receive food and personal hygiene items: Jefferson High School, Roosevelt High School, Madison High School, Franklin High School, Boise-Eliot Elementary School and all four Rosemary Anderson Alternative School campuses.
So far in 2018 we estimate that we’ve delivered 30,000 pounds of food and other items to local schools. We estimate that currently 3,000+ students have the ability to receive food and other products on a daily basis. This is triple the amount of students we were able to help in 2017. We hope to continue to increase the number of students served in 2019.
